Chulalongkorn Medical Students Contribute to International AI Research for Liver Cancer Detection

Two Chulalongkorn University medical students, Darlene Ariyaskul and Kittipat Kulkraisri, contributed to a research project developing an artificial intelligence (AI) system to detect and classify liver lesions from ultrasound images.

The research was conducted using a large collection of ultrasound images from more than 5,000 patients. Darlene and Kittipat contributed to data analysis and interpretation and wrote the first draft of the manuscript, working alongside researchers and physicians from Chulalongkorn University, Roi-Et Hospital, and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). The AI system demonstrated promising accuracy in distinguishing malignant from benign liver lesions, highlighting its potential to support doctors in the detection and diagnosis of liver cancer.

The manuscript was submitted in 2023, accepted in August 2024, and published in Scientific Reports in September 2024. (Nature)

Personal devices will have bio-sensors to detect critical vital signs like irregular heartbeats and will be able to immediately send alerts to their doctors for any signs of life threatening conditions. Healthcare will be accessible where ever as internet connectivity becomes more and more ubiquitous.
